Regional highlight: Seattle’s comprehensive support plan

Council members welcomed Seattle Mayor Jenny Durkan at the September 20 Council meeting in Seattle. Mayor Durkan presented an engaging message on the importance of educational and economic opportunity, highlighting Seattle’s Families, Education, Preschool, and Promise Plan. The plan, which calls for a wide variety of investments and supports extending beyond the classroom, complements the state’s educational attainment goal.

Following Mayor Durkan’s presentation, members explored similar efforts to improve the state’s educational and economic outlook. This covered programs providing support and resources for foster youth, immigrant and refugee families, and adults seeking reentry into the workplace.

Seattle hosts several collective efforts to increase educational attainment that address the region’s unique culture and characteristics.
